Situated in Zone 5, Sutton is less than 30 minutes by train from central London, and south and south west London are easily accessible by public transport. There are 10 train stations which serve key neighbourhoods within the borough providing direct connections to London Victoria, London Bridge, London Blackfriars and St Pancras International. Sutton also has direct rail connections with Epsom, Dorking, Guildford and Horsham, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground and West Croydon for the London Overground. There’s also an extensive road network which provides close and easy access to the M25 and M23.

Recruitment and Retention Package at Sutton including a Golden Hello and Retention Bonus

As of 1st September 2022, all new recruits to selected roles within Children’s Health Services shall receive a starting salary similar to the NHS. For example a newly recruited Specialist Practitioner School Nurse at Sutton would be placed at a mid range spinal point (SP 32) of Grade 8, closely matching the NHS pay scale for the same role. The current LBS figure would be £40,614 to offset the NHS entry figure of £38,762 

As part of our Recruitment and Retention Bonus and to support our colleagues with the rising costs of living, we have introduced additional benefits to make the role as competitive as possible:

  • New recruits to selected roles within Children’s Health Services are entitled to the NHS passport scheme. This is the transfer of your continuous service from your previous employer, so you don't lose the benefit you may have acquired through longer service.
  • Staff within selected roles within Children’s Health Services will receive a “Golden Hello”, a one off payment of £1,500 when joining, paid in your first months’ salary and a Retention Bonus of £1,500 after completing 2 years service.

Specialist Practitioner School Nurse

Salary - £40,614 - £44,814 (unconsolidated maximum £46,857)

Reporting to the School Nurse Team Leader, we have a great opportunity for a Specialist Practitioner School Nurse to deliver the strategic vision for children’s services in the Borough, promoting interagency working between Health and Local Authority services to achieve the best outcomes for school age children and families in Sutton.  

Experience 

  • Delivery of health promotion activities
  • Working with children and families in a range of settings 
  • Experience of working with young people with emotional and mental health needs
  • Understanding of the safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and the ability to make decisions in these areas

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills: IT, written and oral
  • Willingness to support management of change, development and working practice
  • High levels of clinical skills, with the ability to identify, respond to and evaluate health needs, including the delivery of public health programmes.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and national guidance
  • Understanding of the safeguarding process and child protection procedures, clinical governance arrangements and the ability to make decisions in these areas
  • Ability to set personal objectives, and manage time, priorities and stressful situations
  • Ability to work as part of a team and other agencies

We are also interested in candidates that don't have all the relevant qualifications and are willing to undertake the additional field of practice in School Nursing

Childrens Health Service

The post holder will be employed by the London Borough of Sutton but will work as part of the Sutton Health and Care Alliance (SHC). SHC is a partnership of key local health and care providers including the Council, Epsom and St Helier’s NHS Trust (ESH), South West London and St Georges MH Trust and the GP Federation. The SHC Alliance was formed so that local health and care providers could work together to deliver high quality health and social care for Sutton residents. The SHC Alliance is already starting to deliver innovative services in Sutton that are providing joined-up care. The first of these is Sutton Health and Care at Home which went live in April 18.

To be successful in this role, we would expect you to demonstrate the following competences:

  • Be a Registered Nurse or Midwife and registered as a School Nurse.
  • Experienced in working in partnership across professional boundaries

Important Information - Criminal Records
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory result to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The successful candidate will have to undergo the specified vetting process including an initial Local Intelligence Check (LIC) and Counter-Terrorism Checks Level 3 Vetting.

Part 1: A Local Intelligence Check (LIC) which involves local Sutton Police officers running a search on the successful candidate on a database to ensure there’s no/limited risk to working from the Police Station pending the outcome of full vetting (part 2). This process is expected to take 2-weeks and is to be completed before the agreed start date.

Part 2: A New Scotland Yard CTC Level 3 Vetting: This process is done upon appointment and commences on the agreed start date at the Police Station. This is an enhanced process which involves a more thorough background search to provide the right security clearance for access to the police station. This process typically takes at least 3 months to complete.

Please note: Appointment and employment is conditional on the post-holder completing and successfully holding Met Police Vetting (Non Police Personnel Vetting Level 2) in order to operate from Sutton Police Station. Failure to pass Met Police Vetting will result in the immediate termination of contract.
