In Sutton, there is much for us to be proud of both as a council and as a borough. This includes high levels of resident satisfaction, the quality of our services, our success in addressing our financial challenges to date, the way that we involve and engage with residents on key issues facing the borough, and the enthusiastic and motivated staff that we employ.

Looking ahead, there are plans for the delivery of new homes and new schools and the London Cancer Hub is being developed, while the Council is also seen as a driving force within the South London Partnership of five outer south west London boroughs focused on strategic growth, regeneration and investment.

All of this demonstrates a good track record and an authority that is ambitious and set to deliver more improvements for the borough. We've set out our vision for the future of Sutton in our corporate plan - Ambitious for Sutton. This strategic plan will shape the outcomes we achieve, the services we provide, and the impact we have on residents, to make Sutton a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Situated in Zone 5, Sutton is less than 30 minutes by train from central London, and south and south west London are easily accessible by public transport. There are 10 train stations which serve key neighbourhoods within the borough providing direct connections to London Victoria, London Bridge, London Blackfriars and St Pancras International. Sutton also has direct rail connections with Epsom, Dorking, Guildford and Horsham, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground and West Croydon for the London Overground. There’s also an extensive road network which provides close and easy access to the M25 and M23.

Sutton’s Adult Learning Disability Team provides a social work service for people who have Learning Disability over the age of 18.

Our work covers daily enquiries to the team’s duty system, including initial safeguarding responses and protection planning as well as undertaking investigations.

Working within the Care Act 2014 team members undertake eligibility assessments, support planning and reviews. Carer's assessments are also a significant part of the work we undertake.

Our social workers are engaged with people living with complex and high risk situations, working in partnership with other professionals to resolve concerns, with the wellbeing principle in mind. This includes using The Mental Capacity Act 2015.

We ensure appropriate advocacy or representation to ensure an individual's human rights are understood and promoted.

Working collaboratively with all parties is vitally important in ensuring that people with a learning disability are enabled to live an ordinary and fulfilled life.

Recording our involvement, actions, interventions and ensuring good communication with all parties is also key.

Sutton’s Adult Learning Disability Team provides a social work service for people who have Learning Disabilities who are over the age of 18 and who are either already in receipt of service or newly referred. The team works  to enhance opportunities and reduce the barriers for community involvement for this often socially excluded group of individuals. This includes being part of their local community, having friendships, enjoying leisure, work, volunteering and education.

There is brilliant  joint working as the team is part of the Learning Disability Service and is co-located with services for  Children with Disabilities, Transitions and the Learning Disability Clinical Health Team.

This is a well established and committed team with low staff turnover and great staff morale. There is a management culture of encouraging self development and welcoming NQSWs and students. The team is known for meeting targets and achieving positive outcomes including timely reviews. The team’s ethos is strengths based practice with our aim being the best learning adults learning disability service in the South East as defined by our service users.

In the 2020 Sutton Pride Awards the Adults Learning Disability team was nominated for the team of the year award.
